More than 100 quilts, both antique and modern, are displayed throughout the Sarpy County Museum in Bellevue for the “Depression to Digital: Celebrating 80 Years of Quilting” exhibit. The annual Great Sarpy Quilt Exhibit features quilts made or owned by people living in and around Sarpy County, Nebraska. One quilt will be crowned the People’s Choice from this show.
Free quilting demonstrations will be offered at the museum on a variety of topics from 1-3 p.m. the second and fourth Saturdays of each month during the exhibit. These include:
- Set in Circles, July 26.
- Quilter’s Choice, Aug. 9.
These hands-on demonstrations will include a make-and-take element and be open to all levels of quilters.
“The demonstrations are brand-new to our quilt exhibit this year,” said Museum Director Ben Justman. “We are hoping to see many people take advantage of the opportunity to enjoy the exhibit and to share quilting skills and ideas.”
Visitors can also take a chance on the 2014 “Sarpy Stars” raffle quilt. Tickets for the red, white and blue quilt are available 1 for $1 or 6 for $5. The winner will be drawn at our Christmas program in December.
Come tour the Great Sarpy Quilt Exhibit Tuesdays through Saturdays 10 a.m.-4 p.m. from June 3-Aug. 16. Admission to the museum is free. Donations are always welcome.
