A Note from our Director – July 2016

The August Fundraiser is right around the corner and I hope you will consider joining us. The museum has two big fundraising events that allow us to successfully operate on a year round basis, pay the bills, and continue to have paid staff. There are many museums and historical societies that are not nearly as fortunate as we are. To continue to function on this level and make progress in keeping the past alive, we need help.

While we have switched to a dinner event this year, the fundraiser is still a true value for attendees. High quality food as a great value is being served. Top notch entertainment is part of the program. This is also your chance to really score some great deals on some awesome prizes, including Nebraska football, Creighton basketball and baseball tickets, gift cards, gift baskets, and much more. If that is not incentive enough to attend, new this year is the wine pull, your chance to win (and drink) a bottle of wine. If you are unfamiliar with the concept of a wine pull, I will share this much with you, everyone is a winner. New this year too, we also will be accepting credit/debit cards for the purchase of event tickets and raffle tickets.

Funds this year will help support our special project to digitally save our local newspapers. I found that our newspapers are slowly turning into bits of yellow scrap paper. By digitally scanning them, the historic papers can be saved on a computer or reprinted in years to come. The contents of the newspapers will also now be searchable, allowing the public greater and faster access to the information.

Again, I hope you will join us not just for a great deal but because of the value of keeping your local history alive.

See you at the museum and on August 6th,

Ben Justman
Executive Director
