I know people mean well when they refer to the Sarpy County Museum as “your museum.”While there is no ill will, I have to admit though it can be a pet peeve of mine. I am lucky that as the Executive Director, I have the opportunity to actively tackle all the things that come our way. While it’s true there is the mundane, the tasks that would have probably been a part of my “other duties” in the job description. Changing light bulbs and running to the store to buy office supplies are part of the job but there are also some wonderful things. Writing a pair of books, proposing the naming of Prairie Queen Recreation Area, school tours, researching our local history, and so many other avenues are just a few of the fun parts of what I do.
It is however not just me at “my museum.” There is a small army of volunteers as well as Melissa, who all help to make the museum run not just smoothly but successfully. With board elections on August 6th, two of those volunteers, both board members have decided to end their long run as board members. Both Kay Holst and Paul Hartnett have decided to let others take on the leadership role of the board after many, many years of service. I want to thank them for their hard work and dedication and I would encourage you to do the same as well. Both Kay and Paul will continue to remain members, volunteers, and actively support the museum. If you are interested in hearing more about what is involved in serving on the museum’s board, please call the museum or stop by.
See you at the museum,
Ben Justman
Executive Director
