It is that time of year again! The Sarpy County Museum is looking for quilts for our annual Great Sarpy County Quilt Exhibit. Quilts should have an interesting hook, be it a unique pattern or an accompanying noteworthy story. Quilts submitted for this exhibit will be loaned on a short term basis to the museum.
Loaned quilts may be dropped off at the Sarpy County Museum between May 5 and May 20 during regular business hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. Quilts may also be dropped off at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Papillion on May 18 between 9:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Sarpy County Museum volunteer Emily Larson will be on hand at the church to accept the quilts.
The kickoff celebration will be held on Sunday, May 31 at 2 p.m. and feature noted Humanities Nebraska speaker, Yvonne Hollenbeck. She will present, “Patchwork on the Prairie,” an entertaining trunk-show of approximately 40 family quilts made on the prairies of Nebraska, spanning 5 generations, providing a glimpse of life during the past 130 years through patchwork. Yvonne Hollenbeck is an award-winning quilter and the nation’s top award-winning cowgirl poet as well as one of the most published. This free event is entertaining for those of any age.
We greatly appreciate your ongoing support that helps make this one of most widely attended events of the year. If you have any questions, please call the museum at (402) 292-1880.
