Join the Sarpy County Museum on Sunday, April 30th at 2 PM as they feature Famous Nebraskans and the Great War presented by local historian and Peru State College, Spencer Davis. This program explores how three important Nebraskans of the time reacted to World War I. William Jennings Bryan, who resigned as Secretary of State in President Woodrow Wilson’s cabinet because of his opposition to the war; Senator George Norris, who opposed President Wilson’s declaration of war; and Willa Cather, whose novel about the war won a Pulitzer Prize.

Spencer Davis has a bachelor’s degree from Brown University, a master’s degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a doctorate from the University of Toronto. He currently serves a Professor of History/Social Sciences at Peru State College. He has published articles on Olaudah Equiano and Ma Rainey and reviews in “Nebraska History”. His areas of specialization are Civil War and African-American history.
